Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional Hatha Yoga system that´s essence is embodied learning. It is personalized and is transmitted directly from teacher to student.
If practiced in its correct method it will lead the practicioner to explore his full potential as human being, creating a cleansed strong physical body and calm and steady mind.
Through the coordination of breath, asana (postures) and drishti (gazing points), we gain awareness of ourselves through repetition and time. Free breathing with sound is the foundation Ashtanga Practice.
Every movement is with an inhale or exhale, a concept also known as Vinyasa, that creates a meditation in motion with movement following the breath. As we learn through repetition to focus on our breath, it brings us more and more to our present moment and we can experience more clarity and calmness. By learning to control our breath, we can learn to control our mind.
Postures are taught sequentially allowing students to develop at a pace that is suitable to each individual. This makes it ideal for those new to Yoga or those with specific physical/health conditions.
Ashtanga Yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It is suitable for all ages, body types and fitness levels. All that is needed is an open mind and enthusiasm to learn.
At Mysore Vienna, Barbara teaches in the tradition of Sri K. Patthabi Jois and his grandson Sharath Jois. Traditionally, Yoga, like all Indian sciences, is only passed on from teacher to student in personal contact.
The greatest benefits come with regular practice!
*** Please note the importance of learning the Ashtanga method only from a traditionally trained teacher.
Only a qualified teacher can provide the necessary guidance to assure safe, steady progress without injury to body or mind.
